Guiseley School Winter Series Welcomes Dave Bunting MBE

On the 22nd of January, Guiseley School had the honour of welcoming Dave Bunting MBE as part of our Winter Series, organised by Mrs Barron (our Head of Geography). Dave Bunting is a renowned Everest expedition leader and former British Forces mountaineering specialist, with years of experience as the Chief Training Instructor of the Joint Services’ mountain training centres across the globe.

In 2006, he led a team of climbers from the British Army in a ground-breaking attempt to become the first British team to conquer the formidable West Ridge of Mount Everest—one of the most challenging routes on the mountain. With an incredible 14 expeditions to the Himalayas, his expertise in expedition leadership, teamwork, and high-risk decision-making is second to none.

During his talk, Dave shared fascinating insights into the challenges of extreme mountaineering, the importance of resilience and teamwork, and the decision-making skills needed in high-pressure environments. His stories captivated the audience, leaving everyone inspired by of the world’s most demanding conditions.

The event was a huge success, with students, staff, and members of the Guiseley community all having a wonderful time. We extend our sincere thanks to Dave Bunting MBE for his time, and to Mrs Barron for organising such an incredible start to the Winter Series.

We look forward to welcoming more inspiring speakers in the future!
