Guiseley School Student Wins Boxing Match Representing Yorkshire

Guiseley School is incredibly dedicated to celebrating our students successes outside of school, and we were thrilled to hear that over the weekend one of our students, Jacob Smith, had great success in his boxing match in Douglas, Isle of Man. We contacted his boxing club, Firefight, for more detail:

"We’d like to share a fantastic achievement from Guiseley School student, Jacob Smith, who has been training with us at Firefight Boxing Club in Guiseley for the past four years.

Jacob is a talented and committed young boxer, registered with England Boxing, and has recently been selected to represent the Yorkshire Boxing Development Squad in an England Boxing-sanctioned show against the Isle of Man team. The event took place this past weekend in Douglas, and Jacob performed brilliantly.

He was bout number 6 of the evening (out of 11) and faced a much taller opponent. Despite the physical disadvantage, Jacob used his jab effectively, stayed composed, and showed real skill and determination to win every round on points, earning a unanimous decision victory. The Yorkshire team won the event 8-1 overall, and their head coach, Alan Haque, praised the strong performances from this new generation of boxers.

Jacob’s head coach at Firefight, Rich Fella, shared the following:
"Jacob has shown exceptional commitment over the last few years and truly earned this opportunity. He boxed superbly on the night, listened closely to his corner, and showed real courage — it takes guts to step into a boxing ring, and Jacob has that in abundance. He’s made a strong impression on the Yorkshire coaches and will no doubt get the chance to represent his county again in future. We’re incredibly proud of him."

Firefight Boxing Club is a community boxing club based inside Unit One Gym in Guiseley (just off of Netherfield Road). Jacob continues to train and compete with us and will now be active on the amateur circuit representing Firefight Boxing."

We would like to wish Jacob all the best going forward, and we cannot wait to see where boxing takes him!
