On Wednesday the 17th Jan our Debate Team took part in the first round of the Womble Bond Dickinson/ Leeds Salon Debate Contest held at St. Mary's Menston Catholic Voluntary Academy.
We are thrilled to say that our team won both rounds! First Debate was argued by Iris Podesta and Mikey Bowden - arguing against the motion that technology alone will not solve climate change. The Second Debate was argued by Harvey Crompton and Jamie White - arguing for the motion that healthcare workers should not be allowed to strike (our teams were allocated a side to argue - they didn't get to choose!).
Iris Podesta was nominated 'Best Individual' by judges Paul Butterworth, Annabel Carington, Simon Cooke, Denise Fahmy and Ruby Hornsbury. Congratulations Iris! It was also a pleasure to see a Guiseley School Alum, Jake Unsworth who now works for Womble Bond Dickinson, chairing the debate.
We are now looking forward to the finals, which will be held at the offices of Womble Bond Dickinson after Easter. Good luck all!
