Guiseley School's first Battle of the Bands in over a decade commenced on the 23rd of November, and what a fantastic night it was!
Sponsored by the fantastic Old Chapel Studio Leeds, with prizes from Rock Leeds too - they made sure each of our bands went home with some unforgettable memories as well as some incredible prizes. We had four bands: The Bellatones, Wyldc@rd, The Six Wonders and Bleach'd.
We received a fantastic reception we had a wide selection of students performing - including Year 7s that have only been with us for 13 weeks, as well as Sixth Formers who have been with us for 7 years.
Our winners were Bleach'd who performed an original song completely composed by themselves. In second place was The Bellatones, and a joint 3rd place between Wyldc@rd and The Six Wonders. The judges were Sam Lord (a member of our English Department, and a fabulous singer), our recently retired head of music Steve Jones, and Steve Leach, the Director of Old Chapel Studios. They all had supportive, insightful feedback for the bands, and they all came away with massive smiles on their faces.
Our prizes included:
Joint third place bands got Old Chapel t-shirts or a discount off Rock School UK's Band Summer School.
Second place also received a 1-1 drum lesson for their drummer.
First place received a 3 hour recording session with producer and a place in the Red Kite Battle of the Bands at the Wardrobe in January 2024.
All bands received a 3 hour rehearsal session courtesy of Old Chapel Studios.
We are all cheering on Bleach'd to win at the Battle of the Bands - and we certainly hope to be running Battle of the Bands here at Guiseley again next year.
Our head of music, Mr Stote, had this to say "I'm so proud of all students who took part. Their performances really came together and they put up a real contest making the judges decisions very tough!"
You can support Bleach'd at The Wardrobe in Leeds on Thursday 18th January 2024, get your ticket here on Eventbrite.
