DOCTORS AND DENTISTS:

If you need to take your child for an appointment please try to get an appointment before or after school. We know this isn’t always possible so please take your child out of school for the appointment – not the whole day! Ensure your child has the appointment card with them to show to their form tutor and the receptionist when they sign out of school.

LONG TERM ILLNESS:

The school may ask for medical evidence from your GP if your child is ill for a long time or has regular time off school due to illness.

HOLIDAYS:

From 1 September 2013, schools are no longer allowed to authorise any requests for children to be taken out of school for a holiday during term time.

REQUESTS FOR LEAVE:

Can only be granted in exceptional circumstances (a holiday would not be considered exceptional). Requests for leave must also be made to the school in advance, retrospective approval will not be given under any circumstances. The DfE has told schools that they cannot authorise any absences after they have been taken. There is an absence in term time form below to use to make a request.

RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE:

The Headteacher may authorise up to two days per year.

PERSISTENT ABSENTEES:

If your child’s attendance falls below 90% (the government’s number, not ours) you will be referred to the Attendance Service. Parent/carers do sometimes end up in court and may receive fines of up to £1,000.
