Student Focus: Florence

Guiseley School Sixth Form student, Florence, started her gymnastics training at the age of eight using the facilities at Benton Park School before moving on to Gymmagic Gymnastics Club in Pudsey.
"I've always really enjoyed competing and training with all my friends at the club. Right now I'm working towards my Level 1 Judging qualification."
With almost ten years’ experience of gymnastics, undertaking a judging course is great opportunity for Florence to expand her skillset in a useful and challenging way.
She goes on to say; "To be a judge I need to be able to recognise the faults in moves, and what to deduct for each one so that the gymnast can be given a score at the end of the routine. When gymnasts compete in Artistic Gymnastics (which is what I do) they move through four pieces of apparatus - bars, beam, floor and vault - and show one routine on each of these to a panel of judges.” Florence’s judging qualification will mean she is trained to judge both floor and vault.
Florence has competed throughout Yorkshire, as well as at a county level against other regions. She is clearly committed to her gymnastics and it's great to see her balancing her studies with such a disciplined sport at a high level.
