2 March 2020

Last week heralded the end of the 2020 chess tournament in the School Library. This year over 80 students from Years 7-13 took part in the tournament, which started in November and concluded in nail biting fashion. On Tuesday, there was a dramatic rematch of one of the semi-final games when the earlier match resulted in a stalemate. Lukas B faced a difficult re-match with last year’s finalist Jack M but won the match to move into the final where he faced last year’s Chess tournament winner Povilas P.

The final was quite a tense occasion for both students as they were watched by students who had taken part in tournament, some found it quite literally too much to watch. Povilas won through in the end to become the Chess tournament winner for a second year in a row.

Ms Dunn and Mr Wakefield would like to thank all the students who took part in this year’s tournament as either a competitor or a judge.
